Elusion

When left behind,
You never mind.
What do you care?
Your blood is rare.

The world's a stage.
So act your age.
In the park and on the swing
Plays the man who would be king.

Right beside him, smiles his queen
With shiny eyes and simple green
Hearted love, forever more.
Unencumbered at its' core.

You can run and you can hide
From yourselves, but not inside.
Little niggles of the truth
Eek about the pangs of youth.

Try to test it and you'll see
Two for you and three for me
Reasons why you won't get far
Darting from your lucky star.

Make your bed and make your peace.
To your aunt, you're just a niece.
But love will find a way to bring
About the heart that wants to sing.

Together we are good as new,
You're the one and I am too.
Off we go into beyond.
A galaxy inside our bond.

Huckabuck

They say opposites attract.
If you don't get me, I'll get you back.
Hot as blazes. Cold as doom.
Wilting faces in the ladies room.

Hotter than a huckabuck.
Cool as a cucumber.
Seems we're running out of luck
On this canvas of burnt umber.

Everyone's now leaving.
They're not just standing by
To watch the sun start peeling
From that effervescent sky,

Or falling from the ceiling
As
the neighbor heaves a sigh.
From what it is you're sweating
There is no getting dry.

She is splashing in the sink.
Call a lifeguard, he needs a drink.
Empty cities, empty streets.
Tires are melting from the heat
.

A crying lady at the store
Gets her soda and a few things more.
She is thirsty to her core.
Cool your temper. Close the door.

Wake up dreaming.
Fever break.
Then start screaming,
For goodness' sake.

The Waiting Room

Back to the scene of the crime.
I guess it's about time.
You've really got some nerve
To try and clean up what you served.

Is your conscience clean?
Look into our faces
Worn and lean.
What does it really mean?

We are hungry.
We are torn.
Apparitions
To be reborn.

Our anguished history,
Now is yours.
Come inside
And close the doors.

Read our faces.
Meet our eyes.
No more hiding,
Alibis.

What you've wrought
And who you are
Inscribed upon us
With the scars.

We have been waiting.
You've gotten old.
There's no debating
What you were told.

It's not your fault.
You meant no harm,
While burning numbers
Into our arms.

Now it's your turn.
The time has come
For retribution,
Not for fun.

You can start screaming.
You will not die.
You are not dreaming.
No more you'll lie.

Tables turned.
Nothing learned.
Fear assassin.
Friends assessing.

Count your blessings.
I'm addressing
To the masses,
The working classes,

From my tower.
I live in terror.
My will to power
From small crop sharer.

Who best suited
To lead the people?
You're all recruited
To climb the steeple.

Once we conquer,
Then we'll squash.
Absolve our rancor.
These hands, we'll wash.

Then I'll tell you
Who we are.
In the mirror
You'll see the scar.

Look behind you.
Pat your back.
They will find you
And attack.

Hollow Log

We're at the gate.
They say we'll have to wait.
What the devil for?
There's new blood across the door.

There's blood upon the moon.
Can you name that tinkly little tune?
Sunny feelings, I suppose.
Broke my stride to smell a rose.

Where's my woman? Where's my dog?
Up a ways there creeps a fog.
We're on a venture. No sense of time.
That harpy music makes it sublime.

The more I wander, the less I roam.
A place up yonder to call my home.
Blood on the moon. Birds in my bed.
I might just lay down here instead.

I see them reading from a book
Above a hole. Let's take a look.

Heard some words that made me shiver.
Best we get on down the river.

It seemed so strange when then they said,
"Come on, old man, get into bed."
My hound should lie here at my side.
Don't go tonight. She warned. She cried.

Tell my woman, tell my love
I'll save a spot here up above,
Or out beyond the cabbage patch.
Kiss my lips, then down the hatch.

The Edge

Is that all there is?
Is this here or there?
We are, well, what have you.
So see if I care.

The walls that surround us
Encompass our dreams.
We're all headed nowhere
By and by any means.

Dressed for our parts.
A play of some sort.
The end or the start.
There, there's a good sport.

No sense of the after.
Without or within.
Up high in the rafters,
A load-bearing din.

Clanging, resounding.
Please help me, I'm drownding
And longing to swim
In the pond where you found me.

Clever class clown,
Sleek ballerina.
The bells chime a sound,
A ladder to freedom.

Higher and higher,
A figurative stilt.
The bagpipe belies
What's under the kilt.

A holiday offering,
A charitable gift,
A corner donation,
A time to uplift.
