Of lonely youth, Rings a cozy womb Round a rosy tomb. Ring, you devil! Rapture, revel For a dime Of Pacific time. What was once said, Crawled into bed. Shook my hand And struggled to stand. Then off you went. Spent every cent. Call when you can, I’m your biggest fan. A single, silver token. A sliver of promise, broken. Thoughts encased, unspoken, Ever falling open. This shade of amber night In Fillmore liquor light, Glows a wish that soars, Then tangles like a kite. I carved a longing box. If lost, return to sender. Still see you look away, Closing words you cannot tender. 6/7/21 To remind myself
I’m a dancing elf A scribbled, crumpled Note to self. How do I get through? What can I get you? Malt-O-Meal, Instead of drive-thru? About me? Never. Ties that sever Big pink pachyderm And image clever. Don’t know nothin. Ain't nobody fussin. Reach out for hands And call their bluffin. Two can play this Long snake moan hiss. Judas showed us A loving kind kiss. Empty gestures Shown to test your Best intentions. Don’t ask questions. Let’s not be bitter. Always a kidder. Scratch the surface Love lies in litter. 8/22/21 Distempered with vice.
The nibbles of little mice. Crumbs left on the carpet. Bums outside the market Chew what you won't spare. Dusty fingers prod the air, Still, and yet I cough. Knowing it’s not enough, But will have to do, While struggling to pursue More substantial. This subscription has been canceled. The vile left with poison, Spooning to the boys in The dormitory Repentant and reformatory. Take heart, little child. The penance has been mild. The sting and bruise will heal, Leaving nothing to conceal But the shiny inner plate, Empty, because you ate All your beans, Knowing that this means No more is coming. Push off from table, running. Leap for the door. Here there is no more, but Your apple has its’ core. Take it, plant the seeds In soil that suits your needs. 4/6/22 I can’t/ I can
Perhaps I'm just an also ran, A wibble wobbly ceiling fan, A wispy shadow of a man. Apollo, heading due North, Followed a travelled, true course. Lofty ambitions put forth. Galloped stallion from stalled horse. Reach out for a gracious hold. Feel the crease to find the fold. Long horizon, quiet, cold. A giant leap, so we are told. Grinding out in second gear. Motivation isn't here. Wherever it is, isn't clear. This is lonely and this is fear. Pencil pushing towards the door. You had it once, perhaps there's more. From a whimper to a roar. A shiny light at calling’s core. Daily practice affirmation. Pushing through the deep frustration. Adding up each small equation. Keep reaching towards a veneration. This I know. You do know how To find your focus. Make it your vow. It can be tough, but holy cow, Don’t put it off, the time is now. 6/6/21 Wind the spool

A whispering sigh A whimpering cry A time to die Comes in slow A pale shadow The jaw goes slack The eyes sink back Day to day Light fades away Night after night No will to fight Gripping hands Squeeze slipping sands Through swollen fingers The aching lingers Small reprieve Before we leave Touching the heart Recalls the start But now it’s done Blame no one A stream divergent Still follows a current Fills up a pond Then moves beyond It swirls and churns Ahead the turns Uncertain where From here to there Embrace the fear Take care, my dear 2/11/22 If I'm mistaken,
My breath be taken. If I’m surprised, Gouge out my eyes. If I’m a fool, My mouth will drool. If I am lazy, My thoughts get hazy. If I’m pessimistic, Again, I missed it. If I am flaky, My legs get shaky. If I lack reason, Suspend me this season. If I withdraw, I broke the law. If I’m on fire, You’ll know I’m a liar. If I turn blue. I didn’t bother to chew. If I get the gout, It’s cuz I’m acting out. If I get gangrene, You’ll know I didn't clean. If I want to lie down, Heavy weighs this town. If I start to curl, The bedsheets will unfurl. If asleep I fall, I'll know I've seen it all. If I turn to dust, I hope there'll be a gust. 2/10/22 Here comes the Bride.
Open wide. See what’s inside. This heart: A shambles Branches, brambles, Awkward triumphs, Dirty pin-ups, Fallen fashions, Focal factions, Decadent dwellers, Decent fellers, Horrendously handsome, Held for ransom. File under forgotten, Bruised and rotten In an old paper bag With gasoline rags. Mind your manners Young party planners. Find your footing. Get busy do-gooding. My moral dilemmas: Just lazy diplomas, Black hematomas, And aubergine bruises. Likely excuses, When you’ve been accused Of wanton regret Like you’ve never met, But still try to sell. They’ll see you in Hell. Bring your own booze And just ring the bell. 10/20/20 Precious little
Time won’t save. Carve and whittle Dreams you crave. Find the middle Of curve and wave. Play and fiddle The supporting stave. Back and forth High and low Someone better Letter for letter Robin Hood And Merry Men Couldn’t patch Humpty Again and again. He teetered on The parapet Reaching high For alphabet No matter what, The crowd below Came to see A derby show. He, himself Would crack the joke Spare the sting Of vicious folk Never knowing What was true, Dumpty boy The yolk’s on you 5/12/23 Senior silence
Quiet violence Mounting tension Apprehension Follow fallow Jug of Gallo Marshy mallow Green to yellow Soothing social So emotional Happy halo Navy Pthalo Relaxing roar Iron ore To the fore On the floor Miner’s musket Picnic basket Guitar busk it Tisking tasket Dancing ghosts Bounce and wobble Gracious host’s Necklace bobble Ermine palor Vaulted valor Heard you holler For a dollar 11/2/21 Love you long time.
Watch me unwind. Daylight Savings Prize engravings Once surrounding, Now rebounding. If you don’t want me, I’ve got Astronomy. In the stars the answer. Battle scars the dancer. Aching brings the Cancer, Rising towards the lancer. Here I am, years later, A floating alligator. I know I’d make nice shoes For those who stand accused. But loafers don’t get far, Gazing at the stars. They shuffle and they kick, Waxing towards the wick. You'll burn till you get sick. That cut was just a nick. Breath in, then push it out. Jump up and flail about. Then get yourself on track. Forward. Don’t look back. Losing was no sin. You’ll get another win. 2/4/22 |
