Time obsession
Wind the clock.
Lone confession
Dickery dock.

While I'm waiting,
You're always late.
Anticipating
My endless fate.

Hurry, hurry,
Hurry up.
Tea leaves scribbled
In the cup.

Tell my fortune,
While there's time.
On the brink
Of the bell chime.

Relax and breath,
For what's become
Of my life's purpose?
I am numb.

Time to get up.
Greet the day.
Comb and straighten
Cares away.

Always moving,
But never shows.
A moment's peace
I'll never know.

Merry Go Round

Have a little drinkie poo.
See through all this peek a boo.
Remember when you had the moves?
All your needles fit the grooves.

What about tonight, my dear?
We'll toast from goblets, crystal clear.
Let's drink our health and down the hatch.
Aren't we a stylish match?

Dear beloved, you hold the key
To my unhappiness and misery.
All your wishes against my wants.
We're a prickly pair of bon vivants.

Through your eyes, you look at me
And envision what this life could be
Without a collar around your throat.
A string bikini in a winter coat.

A pity that I just can't stay.
The tides have turned and rolled away.
Out beyond the bright horizon,
Lies what I've been fantasizing.

It's your turn, now, to hear the bell,
I ring from where I live to tell.
All because I took a chance,
It's now become my floor to dance.

Come, come, my dear, pick yourself up.
There's still some champagne in the cup.
Show the doctor where it hurts.
Your banquet's over, just desserts.

Pow Wow

9/24/2026

Close the door, it's cold.
The past has gotten old
And we're next,
A troop somewhat perplexed.

Maneuvers on a battlefield,
A red mirage of what is real.
Arrows fly like firecrackers.
The sky is dark, the air is fractal.

Hoof it with the cavalry.
Join the pow wow revelry.
Meet halfway and no returns.
What you get is what you've earned.

Some will wait for those behind,
For we were once the settling kind.
Push ahead and dance for rain.
A dry canteen, all that remains,

Parched of promise by design.
The unknown we are yet to find.
Lost inside the passing void,
Adventure we once much enjoyed.

Tonight, you'll hear a battle cry.
Tomorrow we'll all say goodbye
To the fate that brought us here.
Bid the phantoms disappear.

Follow them into the earth.
Together, we reclaim our berth.
Fighting over what becomes
The purpose of the beating drums.

Hope So

Another place.
Another way.
Our divisions
Are here to stay.

What I left,
Was for good.
Where I am,
Hunts for food.

At least we're here
Like before.
Look around,
There's even more

Chance to make it
Without hate.
They're shucking oysters
At the gate.

Here to help you,
If they can.
Perhaps it's all
The fault of Man,

Who guards his treasure
For his own.
Measure for measure,
All alone.

If you wish,
You'll have to try
To put your hand out,
And so will I.

Barbara, Barbara, help me up.
I want hot chocolate in a china cup.
Dust the mantle, close the curtains.
Your housecoat hanger fate is certain.

Hurry Barbara if you can manage
To overcome your wilting saggage,
Tend to dinner, then draw a bath
Tidy up around my wrath.

Where've you been, you molting crab?
Wincing into my spiteful jabs.
Waiting for the end to come,
You're just as worthless as you are dumb.

I'll twist your arm as you call "uncle",
You festering, cankled wet carbunkle.
Do something with your frown so drab
Peck, peck the pimple into a scab.

Come downstairs and take your lumps.
A squawking goose should have such bumps
You call a figure inside a sack.
I dare you, over my broken back,

To make an effort, with head held high.
You hang around and we know why.
Afterwards, it's yours to keep,
So long as you know how to reap

The benefits of your self worth
In the afterglow of your rebirth.
Cheer up, Barbara. If I have my way,
You'll always have a place to stay.

Aftermath

What's behind the door?
A prize or something more
Serious. You're all too hungry
And somewhat delirious

To know what's best.

A solstice soul survival test.
Tired and waiting for relief.
When it comes, it's as a thief:
Preachy, plundering premonition.

We all display a deep contrition,
Yet nothing's managed up to now.
By every means we have avowed
A leader to live and tell us how.

A prophet gives us what to give.
Yet, Interlopers will always be
Doubting without sympathy.
Barging in to change the channel.

Let's just see what's behind the panel.
So far, we've moved along in faith,
Lacking love though less of hate.
Droning on devoid of hope.

Where there's a beam, there hangs a rope.
All at once, or dribbly drab.
Brand New Coke instead of TaB
Fills the glass with nothing much.

We've poisoned all there is to touch.
Perhaps it's best by what we've made,
We follow suit and begin to fade.
Close the book and put away
The faint twilight that hopes the day.

Duck, Duck, Goose

Walkie, talkie, squeak and squawk.
Skipping rope around the block.
Now a constant nagging buzz.

Wondering what's become of us.

I thought that we could make it work.
Shadows loom and lean to lurk.
Winding up and out for blood.
Tippy toe like Elmer Fudd.

Slowly slowly, they advance.
Circumskeptic circumstance.
Winking eyes dart and roam
Up and down our stolid home.

Ringy dingy on the line.
Pull the curtains, draw the blinds.
After hours, behind the shop,
Baby sips her soda pop.

Makes her daddy sweat and bark.
Just you wait till after dark.
While he's lying, she will plot.
Tiny tantrum, tiny tot.

Don't believe me. I don't care.
Pull my pigtails, if you dare.
You'll be sorry, yes you will.
Hug me 'till it's time to kill.

What you've lost is what I've kept,
Inch by inch and step by step,
Come to find you while you sleep.
What you sew is what you reap.

Itsy, bitsy spider fly
Down the stairs and say goodbye.
Playtime's over. Take a nap.
Fall into my little trap.

Hey there, Mr. Big,
What's it gonna be?
The apple or the fig
Falling from the tree?

Your life, spent chasing dreams,
Ends. No curtain call.
Your head now hits the beams
To find you're not so small.

Conversing in the mirror,
Just puts the truth to shame.
You see yourself no clearer.
The answers are the same.

Delusion and despair
Walk in so neatly dressed.
They point at you and stare.
Your creases aren't impressed.

What's it really matter
Once you've lost the race?
Perhaps, alone, you'd rather
Look your conscience in the face.

Fumble through your failures.
Pick out which songs to play.
Perhaps we can regale your
Life in disarray.

Waltz around the room.
Offer guests some mints.
You're coasting on the fumes
Of remorse and penitence.

Watch it, Pal

Hold it, right there.
Times like these are rare.
You forgot to place a bet
On one man's future life regret.

They told me to step outside.
Your position here's been nullified.
Do me a favor, take a walk.
If you're still around, I'll clean your clock.

Listen, chum, I've got the goods
For cities, towns and neighborhoods.
Not just as king for a day,
From now on, things will go my way.

Hey Charlie, let's have another round.
For what goes up, will not come down,
While I'm in the driver's seat.
Let's put this program on repeat.

I can see you're not impressed,
Though I'm well groomed and neatly dressed.
So watch me while I break the bank
For just a taste of what J.D. drank.

Ok, so let those bubbles rise.
From now on, all that money buys
Won't put things back the way they were,
Before I gave this pot a stir.

Give me just a little more time.
Not to stop it on a dime,
But to realize all that I'm worth
While I dazzle on this earth.

It's Nothing

I know you won't believe me.
My madness predeceades me.
But listen to me now.
I've got to show you how

I'm telling you the truth.
Like trying to pull a tooth,
Your complacent disbelief
Makes me an anxious thief

That you invited in
And running round amok
Back to the loony bin.
I'm running out of luck.

All alone again. I know
No hands that squeeze affection.
A lonesome way to go.
No signs that point direction.

The monsters are inside,
Not lurking 'round out there.
Don't point them out, just hide
That you see or even care.

The bird is on the wing.
I've got to clear the air.
Won't you please just bring
Understanding I can bear.

I'll go out on a limb
To show you how I feel,

But please help me to hold on
To something that is real.
