On a pedestal
He stands. Respect He commands. Time has tarnished, Dulled the varnish. Commemoration. Veneration. Clacky clack. Smack of balls Sputters through Cigarette halls. On forest felt And chalky blue, In the corner Waits my cue. Corner pockets. Winner’s cup. Fire rockets. Rack em up. Little kid And Red Roy Rogers Whose heart he hid. The tiny todger Now looks back. His shoes won’t fill The walls that crack The windowsill. Behind the memory Aches the song. His only father Could do no wrong. 04/12/22
