Once upon a time,
At the local Five and Dime,
There lived a dreamy town.
Their hopes up on the mound.

A pennant was at stake.
A rattling for the rake.
To win at any cost.
When all is love, then all is lost.

Hollow chamber echoes not,
While the bottom can't be bought.
Any savior comes along
Who brings the righteous, can't be wrong.

Shake the hand that grips the truth.
Painful choices from your youth.
Never a quitter, always the game.
Another uniform, still the same.

Expectations and rules to bend.
Empty promises never end.
Trade one team for yet another.
To belong to what I wonder.

To that which gives a sense of purpose.
At least it looks good on the surface.
Learn to give your best team efforts.
Sunny skies and sailing zephyrs.

Just wait till everyone heads for home,
Sounds of cheering ghosts that roam.
