The long goodbye
A whispering sigh A whimpering cry A time to die Comes in slow A pale shadow The jaw goes slack The eyes sink back Day to day Light fades away Night after night No will to fight Gripping hands Squeeze slipping sands Through swollen fingers The aching lingers Small reprieve Before we leave Touching the heart Recalls the start But now it’s done Blame no one A stream divergent Still follows a current Fills up a pond Then moves beyond It swirls and churns Ahead the turns Uncertain where From here to there Embrace the fear Take care, my dear 2/11/22
